The main theme of this story is the power of love. The Murry children are allowed to express themselves and explore their world. The parents have instilled love and loyalty in their children. They are given the freedom to choose their own future. The importance of family is shown when the father is rescued. Meg is the only person who can conquer the powers of darkness because she finds her own inner strength and recognizes the power of loyalty and love. The author shows us that the only way to defeat evil is through love, first for the family and then extended to friends.
