As several townspeople gave false testimony at Kit’s inquiry, Kit was helpless. Nothing that she said seemed to help. Her uncle tried to intercede on her behalf, but was not able to alter the minds of those who accused her. When Goodman Cruff brought out the copybook that Kit had given Prudence and charged her with bewitching his daughter, all of Kit’s hope was lost. She was going to be declared a witch and sent to Hartford for a jury trial. To me, this was the moment of greatest suspense.

There are several moments of high tension, but I'd have to go with when the community decided Hannah was a witch. They went to capture her and burn her house, and Kit was racing against an entire community, with her own life and/or reputation at stake if she's seen. That's good suspense!
