What is the meaning of Virginia Woolf's concept of the "androgynous mind"?

I have always understood the androgynous mind to mean that we are all human, and humanity consists of males and females.  Our brains should be able to do what is normally considered male and female equally well.  At the same time, I am not sure I subscribe to the theory of the male and female brain.
