No, the point of this Chekov play is that the daughters of a high-ranking officer in the Russian Army are stranded in a small unnamed outpost town in Russia, isolated geographically from the cosmopolitan life of big-city Moscow.  They are surrounded by sychofant officers, hangers-on who are taking advantage of the sister's reduced social and financial state.  Each sister, from their different ages and married statuses, reveals her character as the sisters react to their plight.  Moscow, while a real city, stands for the dreams of anyone stuck in a situation not of their choosing, beyond their power to repair, and gradually reducing their spirit.  The final scene, visually dramatic and touching, brings the three sisters together in their mutual tragedy, as their last hope, the soldiers, pass out of the town.
