If we are defining mood as the general atmosphere of emotion created in a writing sample, then I would say that one of the most dynamic aspects of mood in Stockett's work is the need to transform reality from what is into what should be.  Stockett creates a work in which the mood of social change is embedded into how the characters relate to themselves and one another.  The conflicts between characters in the work reside in this premise.  Characters like Skeeter fly in the face of conflict when their values committed to change collide with individuals like Minnie who benefit and wish to continue the Status Quo.  Combatting racial prejudice becomes the critical element of the mood of social change in The Help.  In focusing on the lives of the women who form "the help," Stockett has created the moood of social change as a part of both the characterizations in the novel and the novel itself.  The fact that the resolution to the work shows the power of solidarity and cohesion between women in standing up for what is right is a mood that emanates to the reader who is forced to examine their own values and predispositions towards social change.  It is here where the most important aspect of mood created in Stockett's work is that of the need to transform or change society.
