Minny--an already skeptical participant in the book writing process--forbids Skeeter from removing the "pie" story from the book. She views the story of her revenge upon Hilly as "insurance" against Hilly's ever outing the women of Jackson as the writers of the book. She knows Hilly's arrogance will prevent her from ever admitting to or risking the chance of someone associating her with eating Minny's excrement. This incident demonstrates not only Minny's savvy common sense but also what she is willing to risk for the sake of the truth being published.
