Scene 3

At Petruchio’s country estate, Katherine is denied food by both her husband and the servants, who claim that anything she tries to eat will only inflame her “choleric” temper. When a tailor arrives with clothes for the couple’s upcoming return to Padua, Petruchio undermines all of Katherine’s opinions and angrily sends the tailor away—later revealed to be a part of his plans to “tame” Katie, as he sends a messenger to inform the tailor he will still be paid the following day. 

Instead of new clothes for the journey, Petruchio insists that the couple must appear humble before Katherine’s father and that they will simply go in what they are wearing. As they set out to leave, Petruchio remarks that they will arrive around noon, with Katherine correcting him by saying that noontime has already passed. An irate Petruchio rebuffs her for attempting to correct him once again and declares that they will not go until it “be what o’clock” he says it is. 

Scene 4

In Padua, Tranio arrives at Baptiste’s home with the pedant, who has been outfitted to play the part of Lucentio’s father, Vincentio. The fake Vincentio happily gives his consent for Lucentio and Bianca to wed. Baptiste, Tranio, and the Pedant then retire to the real Lucentio’s home to discuss the financial arrangements of the marriage. The real Lucentio, still disguised as Cambio the tutor, is sent to find Bianca and prepare her to meet her new fiance. However, Lucentio and Bianca instead decide to elope in order to secure their attachment.
