Susan Perabo was born on January 6, 1969, in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Webster University in Missouri. Because the college did not have a women’s softball team, Perabo played on the men’s baseball team. Her brief career as the first woman to play NCAA baseball earned her a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The following year she joined a women’s club team. She received her master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She taught creative writing at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where she became an assistant professor and writer-in-residence. In addition to teaching fiction workshops, she teaches literature courses in contemporary fiction and serves as a faculty advisor for the Belles Lettres Literary Society and The Dickinson Review.
