Part VI Summary: Sundiata, Ruler of Mali
The allies defeat all of Soumaoro's supporters. Sundiata returns to Mali to take the throne. He appoints the descendants of Balla Fasseke, the Kouyate, as the official griots for his successors, the Keitas. Upon his arrival, he discovers that the people of Niani have already begun rebuilding their city, and he establishes it as his seat of power. Sundiata rules there with justice and wisdom for many years. Although many great leaders follow Sundiata, none match the legacy of the son of the Buffalo Woman and the Lion King. As Kouyate reminds us, Sundiata left an enduring impact on Mali, and his laws continue to guide its citizens in their daily lives.
