As we go through life, we hope we are living a life that reflects worth and purpose. However, the interesting thing to note in Shield's interpretation is that she does NOT call these encounters "defendants" but rather "witnesses." As such, we can assume that there will be testifying both for the defense and prosecution. No one, as Shield's protagonist Diasy Goodwill Flett discovers, lives a life of perfection.
