Wayne Parr is a minor character who doesn't say much at all. All Wayne has to do is show up looking good and perform his boyfriend duties for Hillari. Hillari was the loud-mouthed one of the couple. Leo describes him as follows:
"Mouthwise, he was her [Hillari's] opposite: he seldom opened his. He didn't have to. All he had to do was appear" (19).
Wayne represents the superficial, good-looking teenager who doesn't have to do or say anything to be popular. He mirrors the priorities of high school society: be good-looking, say nothing, and achieve nothing. When he was interviewed for Leo and Kevin's Hot Seat production, they asked him who his hero was and Wayne said that it was "GQ," otherwise known as Gentlemen's Quarterly. Leo paraphrases what Wayne went on to say:
"He looked straight at the camera. He nodded smugly. He went on to say he wanted to become a male model, his ultimate ambition was to be on the cover of GQ" (20).
Another time that Wayne Parr is mentioned to have said something, it is about what he was planning on wearing to the Ocotillo Ball. It shouldn't be any surprise the Wayne would say something regarding fashion, either, since it has to do with looking good. The passage says as follows:
"The day after Wayne Parr said he had chosen powder blue for his dinner jacket, three-quarters of the boys ordered the same from Tuxedo Junction" (167).
And Wayne doesn't say much more than that. It is interesting to note, though, how much like sheep people are. The boys probably would have worn banana costumes if Wayne Parr had said so. And Wayne probably would not have been ostracized for his choices and behavior like Stargirl was because he was accepted by everyone.
