What did Stargirl leave in the mailbox when Leo followed her after school?

This is a really great sequence in the book because readers are likely to suspect that Stargirl realizes Leo is following her, and those suspicions are proven true much later in the book. In chapter 3, Leo is following Stargirl, and he's hoping that he learns some information that will help him make sense of her; however, he winds up with more questions than answers. The mailbox moment is one such moment. Leo sees Stargirl leave something in the mailbox of a random person's home. Leo is so curious that he takes the item out of the mailbox. It turns out it is a homemade card that says, "Congratulations!" Leo will eventually learn that the card is one of Stargirl's many acts of kindness she does for seemingly random people. It turns out that her kindness isn't as random as it appears. She combs through city bulletin boards and newspaper announcements to figure out which person is in need of her special support.

What did Stargirl leave in the mailbox when Leo followed her after school?

Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli in 2000, tells a story about a quirky girl trying to find her way in public school after being homeschooled. She remains true to herself, and her strange behaviors make Leo want to follow her one day after school to learn more about who she is. As he is following her, he sees that she leaves something in a random person’s mailbox. His curiosity gets the best of him, and he opens the mailbox to find that Stargirl left this person an unsigned Congratulations card. At first, Leo believes she just leaves cards in random people’s mailboxes, but it is later revealed that she searches through the local paper to determine where to leave the unsigned cards.

In Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, what did Leo see Stargirl place in a mailbox?

In Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, Leo observes Stargirl placing an envelope in someone's mailbox. When Stargirl is out of sight, Leo opens the mailbox and finds a card inside. It is homemade, and it says "Congratulations" on it. The card is not signed. Leo later finds out that Stargirl reads the announcements in the newspapers and on bulletin boards to find out what is going on with people. If someone has a baby or gets a promotion, she might put a congratulatory card in the person's mailbox. She might leave a potted plant or sometimes a plastic one, on a porch if someone is going through a difficult time. Stargirl likes to cheer people up anonymously. She even eventually gets Leo to help her on these errands. Leo finds in her a pure soul--someone who is really good, and he does not want her to get hurt.
