The Hot Seat is the in-school TV show in Stargirl. Leo and Kevin started the show the year before the book takes place. Leo functions as the show's producer and director, and Kevin is the on-camera host. The Hot Seat is a question and answer show that is designed to put the person chosen for the "Hot Seat" in an uncomfortable position. Leo and Kevin choose one student per month to be interviewed, and most of the people that they select to be in the Hot Seat are students that are noteworthy for one reason or another: honor students, solid athletes, and so on. The show itself has two chairs on stage. One is for Kevin and the other is for the student being interviewed. Off to the side are 12 chairs for the "jury." The jury's job is to ask "ticklish questions, embarrassing questions, nosy questions." This is what makes being in the Hot Seat uncomfortable for the interviewee, but it also is what makes the show fun to watch. However, mean or hurtful questions are not allowed.

This assignment doesn't specify when in the novel Leo is supposedly being interviewed, so I would recommend that your response take place after the events of the entire story. You could set it during the following year. This allows jury questions to better honor the rule about mean and hurtful questions. The time would have softened a lot of heated memories about Stargirl. Placing your interview that far after the book also allows you to ask questions about any moment in the entire novel.

For example, the jury could ask Leo the following question: "What was your first thought when you saw Stargirl?"

Since the questions are meant to be "nosy" and "ticklish," the jury could ask Leo about his romantic feelings for Stargirl: "When did you like Stargirl 'in that way?'"

Another good question might be to ask Leo what his thoughts are on Stargirl's antics. Remember, Stargirl confesses to Leo about her random acts of kindness, but other people don't know about them. The jury could pose a question that allows Leo to share that information: "What can you tell us about Stargirl's attitude toward people? Are there people besides yourself that she likes more than others?"

I would also include some questions that probe Leo's intentions about trying to change Stargirl: "If you loved Stargirl the way that she is, why did you try to change her?"
