My response is that it is good to see that Arab countries are starting to turn against Assad and Syria's government.  This has been a very brutal regime and it is good to see governments in the region starting to push for it to go.

Too much of the time, sanctions against countries like that are imposed only by the West and so they lack legitimacy in the Arab world.  These sanctions, if imposed, along with political condemnation could really make a difference.  If the Arabs turn against him, Assad cannot pose as an Arab leader standing up against the West.  Instead, he will be even more exposed as a tyrant who is willing to kill hundreds and hundreds of his people in order to keep power.
