Saudi Arabia is a very interesting country in terms of women's rights.  Saudi Arabia is not as harsh a place as Iran or Afghanistan.  It is pretty modern in many ways.  Women are often well educated, for example.  Yet, at the same time, there are many restrictions on the rights of women.

For example, women are not allowed to drive.  Women of all ages must also have male guardians.  These guardians' permission is typically required for all sorts of things.  Male permission is typically needed in order for a woman to travel or to have any sort of elective surgery.

Saudi Arabia is also interesting in that there are somewhat vocal women's movements on both sides of the issue--both in favor of and against women having more rights.
