The Caribbean is a tourist destination for much of the world, because it has nice weather and attractive beaches.  Yet the Caribbean doesn’t have much political clout.  There is a lot of poverty despite the tourist trade.  Most of the common people do not benefit from it.

Unfortunately, the role of the Caribbean in the global village today is a subordinate one.  The Caribbean is seen by the more developed countries as a place to go on vacation or a place to hide one's money so as to avoid having to pay taxes on it.  The region is not seen as an equal member of the village.
