Nora helps the wheelchair-bound Mr. Myles with gardening his little plot. Mr. Myles had pretty much given up on life, so the community garden gives him a sense of purpose and something to look forward to.
Of course, being confined to a wheelchair inevitably presents more than its fair share of challenges when it comes to gardening, but Mr. Myles is nonetheless determined to make the most of his exciting new hobby. And Nora, the English lady who regularly takes him on little excursions in his wheelchair, is more than happy to make things easier for him.
Just before she goes to see Mr. Myles, Nora takes a large plastic trash barrel to the vacant lot which she intends to use as a miniature garden that Mr. Myles will be able to reach in his wheelchair. Once she's filled the barrel with dirt, she goes off to fetch Mr. Myles and bring him to the garden.
She has a dozen seed packets with her, and Mr. Myles, ignoring the vegetables, chooses flowers: hollyhocks, poppies, and snapdragons. Nora figures that perhaps Mr. Myles, in choosing to plant these flowers, is thinking of his mother's flower garden.
