2. Many individuals research how death impacts family and friends. Gather information on how people typically react to death. Compare this research to Louie's response as depicted in the book.

3. In Chapter Five, Coach Lednecky states, "Now I don't want to sound prejudiced, but I played with blacks up at the U, and there's only one way you can stop them. That's to hurt 'em." Discuss the role prejudice plays in this novel. Do you observe any instances of prejudice in your community against specific groups? Consider ethnic, religious, racial, gender-related, or socio-economic biases. Center your report on one of these areas.

Do these criteria vary across different colleges? How about colleges or universities in your area? Consult with your counselor, the athletic director, admissions counselors at local colleges or universities, and anyone else knowledgeable about this subject. You might know a "student-athlete" currently in college who can share their perspective. What challenges do student-athletes encounter in college?

6. A key trait of a round character is that they undergo some transformation during the novel. What changes do you observe in Louie throughout the story? Provide specific examples. Include passages that support your viewpoint.

7. Find another novel about high school sports and read it. Compare this book with the one you're currently reading. Which did you prefer? Justify your opinion by discussing how the authors handle plot, character, theme, and point of view. What other aspects did you like or dislike about both novels?
