Here's the world's fastest version:
Boy meets girl, they fall in love, family feud kills them both.
Shakespeare summed up it best, of course, through the Prince at the end of the play:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished;
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo.
In the end, Romeo and Juliet's fate seem preordained... they are "star-crossed" lovers. This is why, one can really only describe the events as "sad things".
Romeo and Juliet is a story of two star-crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet's family hate each other, they meet not knowing that one is Capulet and the other a Montague and fall in love. Their families are fighting, and they are forbidden to be together. Romeo kills one of Juliet's cousins and goes into hiding. Juliet fakes her death so that they can be together. Romeo, not knowing that Juliet's death is faked kills himself. Juliet awakes imagining that they will be together, sees that ROmeo is dead and ends up killing herself.
