The work of Christ had one big goal: to demonstrate that God is a God of love and forgiveness. In the Old Testament, God was often portrayed as vengeful and even scary. Through Jesus's work, however, this view of God began to change. Jesus made it very clear to his followers that God is a loving God. In order to help people to live a life that pleases God, Jesus demonstrated and exercised love and forgiveness himself.

For example, we can see that when Jesus chooses to show empathy with social outcasts. In Mark 1:40, we can read that a man suffering from leprosy asked Jesus to heal him. Not only did Jesus proceed to heal him, he actually touched him in the process. This was an unbelievable thing to do at the time, given how infectious and dangerous leprosy was. Through this action, Jesus tried to show that God wants to show solidarity with everyone. God loves everyone, even those whom are not liked by society.

Jesus tried to spread his message of a loving God not only through his actions, but also through stories. The parable of the lost son, for example, can be found in Luke 15:11-32. It highlights how loving and forgiving God is. Through this parable, Jesus tried to make it clear to people, how much God loves us and how God is always prepared to forgive us, just like the father in the parable forgives his son.
