Who is Mr. Jingles and what is his role in The Pickwick Papers?

Mr. (Alfred) Jingle is a character who tries unsuccessfully to marry women for their money (Miss Wardle and Miss Nupkins).  He is somewhat of a trouble maker. 

Jingle ends up in the Fleet Prison and Mr. Pickwick helps to get him out.  After that, Jingle promises to be rehabilitated (and does).
