Antonio, Leonato's brother, informs him that his servant overheard Don Pedro tell Claudio he loves Hero.

According to this servant, Don Pedro plans to reveal this to her at the dance being held at Leonato's house that night.

If Hero finds Leonato suitable, Don Pedro will ask for her hand on Claudio’s behalf.

Leonato tells Antonio to give hero notice of these plans so that she can prepare an answer.
