Chapter 9 covers three interwoven topics: Farmer going back and forth between Haiti and Harvard, his developing relationship with Ophelia, and his new relationship with Tom White. Farmer studied medicine intensely whether in the United States or in Haiti, but it was in Haiti that his studies were applied and took on meaning.
