Steve's mother is worried sick when the police initially take Steve in for questioning. She argues with the officers who handcuff Steve and runs out onto the street in an attempt to follow her son after he is taken away. Throughout the course of Steve's trial, his mother visits him several times. Steve mentions that he can see the pain in his mother's eyes. Despite her unhappiness that Steve is in prison, she does her best to offer him support and encourage him through the difficult time. She gives him a Bible, highlights Psalm 28:7, and also tells Steve that no matter what, she believes that he is innocent. During the trial, Steve's mother is anxious, disturbed, and worried about her son's fate. She forces herself to smile when she sees Steve and throws her arms in the air after hearing that her son was found not guilty. She is thoroughly relieved at the verdict. Steve's mother is a caring person who compassionately supports her son throughout the trial.
