What's an alternative "closed ending" for Katherine Mansfield's "Miss Brill"?

In the end of "Miss Brill ," readers get certain clues that the titular character now understands how alone and old she is.  First, she skips the slice of cake for which she always stops on her way home from the park.  Then, the narrator describes her home as a "little dark room -- her room like a cupboard," a phrase which uses the exact same words that Miss Brill previously thought of when she pictured the homes of the old people at the park.  Next, she hears crying as she puts her fur away, but the narrator doesn't specifically state that the crying is hers.  Her realization is thus hinted at but never stated explicitly.  One good closed ending for this story might be to clearly state what Miss Brill has recognized -- that she is as old and alone and unimportant as all of the other old...
