Remember, "solving for x" means "getting x alone."  Always locate the variable (in this case x) and "move" all other numbers away from it.  So you must use inverse operations to achieve this.  In other words, use multiplication and division to "undo" each other and addition and subtraction to "undo" each other.

To solve      5(x + 5) =50

     1.  Divide both sides of the equation by 5.

               5(x + 5)= 50                                                                      n                  5         5

             Result:     x + 5 = 10

      2.  Now subtract 5 from both sides.

                 x + 5 - 5= 10 - 5

                 Result:  x = 5

Because x is isolated (alone), you are finished.  x = 5 is your answer.

The equation 5(x+5)= 50 has to be solved for x

5(x+5)= 50

divide both the sides by 5

=> (x + 5) = 10

subtract 5 from both the sides

=> x = 5

The solution of 5(x+5)= 50 is x = 5
