Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee loves many things about his new life with the Beale family in the East End.

1.  He loves that Mrs. Beale gets him a new pair of sneakers.  Maniac loves to run, and his old shoes had been falling apart from wear.

2.  He loves how loud and lively the Beale's church is.  His aunt and uncle had been devout Catholics, so we can assume that his previous experiences with church have been more formal.  The congregation claps and sings during the church service.  Maniac soon gets very into the lively church atmosphere, as we discover in chapter 14:

One day he just jumped himself up onto the pew bench and threw his arms to the sky and shouted at the top of his lungs: ''Hallelujah! Amen!"

3.  Maniac Magee loves "the Fourth of July block party."  The party lasts all day and even into the evening.  There are games, music, and plenty of food.  At night, they shoot off fireworks.

4.  He loves the colors he sees in the East End.  He notes all the different shades of brown on the faces of his new friends and neighbors.  The colors he sees are "gingersnap and light fudge and dark fudge and acorn and butter rum and cinnamon and burnt orange."
