After Grayson gives Maniac some soup and a zep, Maniac asks for some butterscotch Krimpets.

Maniac, homeless, had been living on his own at the zoo in the bison pen.  Grayson, who works at the zoo, finds him one morning unconscious; Maniac is terribly malnourished, and is in bad shape.  Grayson picks up the boy and takes him back to the baseball-equipment room where he himself lives at the park.  Maniac looks awful;

"his clothes (are) scraps, rags.  Wherever his body show(s) through, it (is) bony and dirty and scratched".

Sensing that the boy is hungry, Grayson goes to his hot plate and makes up some chicken noodle Cup-a-Soup.  Although he barely has the strength to lift the cup, Maniac gulps the food down before Grayson can even find him a spoon.  Grayson then goes out to get Maniac a zep, which is a kind of deli sandwich.  Although the zep is a large, Maniac "polish(es) it off" as quickly as he had devoured the soup.  When he is done, Maniac politely asks Grayson if they can "go somewhere and get some butterscotch Krimpets".  Grayson is stunned that the boy is still hungry after eating the soup and the huge sandwich, and asks Maniac some questions about how he came to be living at the zoo first.  When Maniac has answered Grayson's questions to the old man's satisfaction, he again asks for some Krumpets, and Grayson obliges, taking him to get some in his pickup (Chapter 22).

After Grayson gives Maniac the soup and the zep, what else does boy want to eat? Why doesn't Maniac want to go to school?

After eating soup and a zep (submarine sandwich), Maniac wanted Butterscotch Krimpets. He has almost an obsession for them. They are little cakes frosted with a butterscotch icing. Grayson had never eaten any, but he buys a large box of them which he and Maniac eat as they drive around town talking.

Maniac doesn't want to go to school because he has no home address to give them. School infers that a child has a family, which Jeffrey AKA Maniac does not. It's not that he doesn't want to learn; he soaks up knowledge from reading books. He craves books about any topic, reading them constantly everywhere he goes. He even takes discarded books from the trashcan and cares for them as if they are a treasure.

After Grayson gives Maniac the soup and the zep, what else does the boy want to eat?

Maniac is very hungry by this time. He obviously hadn't been eating well since Grayson noticed that "Wherever his body showed through (his tattered clothes) it was bony..." (pg 80)  The soup and the zep were nice, but he had a craving for butterscotch krimpets.  A butterscotch krimpet is a small vanilla cake, hand held size, with butterscotch frosting.  Grayson overdid it a little and bought him thirty of them.  Maniac thought he had died and gone to Heaven.  Remember that he enjoyed Mrs. Beale's cakes too.  They ate them all afternoon as they traveled around in Grayson's truck.  Even then they didn't satisfy him.  At dinner that night he ate meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes, zucchini, salad, and coconut custard pie.
