This question is a "what do you think" type of question; therefore, it is up to you to pick a side of the argument and support your choice with evidence. You may certainly support the claim that female athletes are under increased fashion scrutiny when compared with their male counterparts; however, I personally wouldn't agree with that. I would support the idea that actresses and female musicians receive more scrutiny than their male counterparts. Simply watching any of the awards shows would support this notion, as it is the women that are asked to stand apart for the photo op and are asked questions about who they are wearing. Any best and worst dressed list often contains far more commentary on the women than the men; however, in the world of sports, the lists of athlete fashion icons and best/worst dressed are fairly evenly split between the male and female athletes. Its not uncommon for the lists to have more men focused on too. Perhaps a reason for this is because there are more male celebrity athletes than female celebrity athletes. The focus is on the men because the sample pool is larger.
Regardless of which side of the argument that you choose to support, be sure to state your argument in the form of a thesis statement. Make it a double-sided statement in order to admit the validity of the opposing argument. Here is one example: "Although the fashion media tends to scrutinize female celebrities more than male celebrities, the scrutiny is evenly distributed when it comes to male and female celebrity athletes."
