1. What health care services are currently offered for children with disabilities in your community or country? How does this care impact their lives? What were the health care options for severely physically disabled children in your community or country before the 1930s? What types of health care are available for these children in other countries today?
2. Generally, what are the advantages of having a large family? Are close genetic ties necessary to experience these benefits? What are the drawbacks of having a large family? Do the advantages outweigh the drawbacks? How can families maximize these benefits while minimizing the disadvantages? Can extended family and the community play a role in achieving this balance?
3. What role do nurses play in Community Health Care Services? What training and credentials are required for nurses? Are there job opportunities for nurses outside of acute-care hospitals in your community? How does nursing differ between urban areas and rural or isolated regions?
4. Describe the row housing for working-class Dublin in the 1930s and 1940s. What was the population density like? How well were these neighborhoods serviced? What health care and recreational options were available to residents in these areas?
5. Sketch a floor plan of a typical house in working-class Dublin's row housing from the 1930s. What was the size of the rooms? What purposes did each room serve? How many children typically shared a bedroom? Would the house be easily accessible for a person with disabilities who could only crawl or shuffle? Compare this house to a modern townhouse or subsidized housing in your community.
6. What is the history of Lourdes? Who are the individuals who make pilgrimages there? How do these pilgrims benefit from their journeys? How does the Lourdes community cater to these visitors? What benefits does the community receive from ongoing pilgrimages? Compare Lourdes to other pilgrimage sites like Lac Sainte Anne in Alberta, Canada.
7. How is a miracle defined, and how is it commonly understood? What hopes do modern individuals have for miracles in their lives? Does a miracle need to be immediate, or can its significant nature be revealed gradually? Could it be argued that Christy Brown experienced a miraculous transformation in his life, and if so, how?
8. Identify a person who has overcome significant hardships in their life. What achievements did this person accomplish, and what obstacles did they face? What aspects of their childhood served as positive resources for the future? Who helped this person achieve their goals, and how?
9. Investigate the life of a remarkable Olympic athlete or Nobel Prize winner. What were the accomplishments that earned this individual recognition? Can you identify how many years or how much time this person devoted to preparing for their significant achievement? What additional objectives did this person set for themselves, and did they succeed in reaching these goals? Highlight other life achievements attributed to this person, such as: family life, a stable home, a circle of like-minded individuals, artistic endeavors, teaching, community service, and more. What aspect of this person do you admire the most?
