The Indian author Kushwant Singh was prolific during his lifetime, which spanned from 1915 to 2014. Though he is perhaps best known for the novel Train to Pakistan, he also worked as a journalist, essayist, and author of short stories. These stories were collected and published in several volumes over the course of his life, among them The Mark of Vishnu and Other Stories, The Voice of God and Other Stories, and A Bride for the Sahib and Other Stories. In the year 1989, the collections were joined together along with several original works that had been previously unpublished, to form a complete anthology of Singh's short fiction entitled The Collected Stories of Kushwant Singh. This complete collection of Singh's short fiction contains 32 short stories total.
