In Superfudge by Judy Blume, we meet Peter, his brother, Fudge, and the rest of his family. The exposition of the story occurs in the first chapter when we discover, along with Peter, that his mother is expecting another baby. Peter is horrified, and we quickly understand why when we meet Fudge. The story's action rises from there and carries us to the book's climax when Fudge and his friend, Daniel, run away.

Superfudge is largely episodic in nature, focusing on various events in the lives of Peter, Fudge, and the rest of the family. But these events also keep the action going and the plot developing. We read about Peter's family moving to Princeton for a year. We become involved as Peter and Fudge start school and make friends. We enjoy hearing about Peter's interest in a young lady and about the kids' Halloween antics and Christmas trials. All the while, the kids are growing and learning about the world.

By the end of the school year, Fudge thinks that he is now big enough to go with Peter and his friend to the lake. The action rises rapidly now as Fudge gets angry when told no and goes with Daniel to prove how mature he is. The rest of the family is terrified when the boys go missing, and the story reaches its climax. It resolves as the family decides to return to their home in New York.
