An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

The Director is a large man whose presence seems to blot out the sun for Layla. He's physically imposing. He seems to barely be able to maintain his own silence but stays quiet until he's sure he has control of the situation. He's hot in the sun, blotting his forehead with a handkerchief while he waits to speak. His breath smells of stale coffee.

The Director is sly and sinister. He focuses on the necklace that David gave to Layla and asks her about it. He follows up his first question by asking her about her boyfriend's religion, since he isn't in the camp. She's upset that she gave him information about her that he didn't already have; she believes that it gives him more power and he's the kind of person who would use it against her. As he leaves, he reminds Layla that he sees everything and plans to keep the camp safe.

He's the kind of man who makes a person in his power nervous. Jake immediately comes to attention and looks into the distance, trying not to draw any additional scrutiny from the Director. When he does have to speak, his words come out in a rush because the Director makes him so nervous.
