Why were Patrick and Omri kicked out of the main hall in Indian in the Cupboard?

Quick answer:

Patrick and Omri are kicked out of the main hall because Omri creates a disturbance during a school assembly. Omri had brought Little Bear to school, keeping him in his pocket. Little Bear, frustrated from being in the dark, begins stabbing Omri with a knife, causing Omri to yelp and jump in pain. The headmaster mistakenly assumes Patrick is involved in the disruption, leading to both being expelled from the hall.

Patrick and Omri get kicked out of the main hall because Omri creates a disturbance. Patrick is actually not involved in the specific ruckus, but gets blamed anyway.

Omri had brought Little Bear to school, and had kept him in his hip pocket all morning. Right around third period, when the students were all in the main hall listening to the headmaster speak, the Indian decided he had had enough of being cooped up, and began stabbing Omri in the hip with his knife. To Omri, the knife's stab felt like "a sharp prick," very painful. He let out a yelp, and when Little Bear continued to stab him, Omri could not help but cry out and jump up in pain. did not do, Patrick walked out of the hall while Omri, still being stabbed, cavorted wildly and yelped repeatedly as he left. The headmaster was livid with rage, and the students broke out in hysterical laughter.

Once he and Patrick reached the end of the playground, Omri reached into his pocket to remove the troublesome little Indian. Omri was angry and let Little Bear know it, but Little Bear, on his part, was angry too at having been left so long, cooped up in Omri's dark pocket (Chapter 11).

Why do Patrick and Omri get kicked out of the main hall?

The reason that they get kicked out of the main hall is that Omri is making too much noise and Patrick is suspected of causing him to make the noise.

The situation here is that the school is having an assembly.  In the middle of the assembly, Omri starts yelling "Ow!"  Mr. Johnson is convinced that Patrick is doing something like stabbing Omri with a pencil because they are bored.

But what is really going on is that Little Bear has been stabbing Omri.  He is mad because he's been kept cooped up in the dark of Omri's pocket.  He wants to be out seeing the sights.
