Sally Summary
Sally is a beautiful girl with shining black hair and glamorous makeup that makes her look like Cleopatra. Esperanza addresses her directly, saying how much she admires Sally and wants to look like her. She does not believe the stories the boys tell about Sally and is sad to see her go straight home after school to her strict father, who sees her beauty as a danger. She asks if Sally would not like to go somewhere far from Mango Street, where she would be free to love, without worrying about other people’s judgments.
