What did the Great Awakening reveal about 18th-century social and economic trends?

The Great Awakening revealed that people were interested in modifying religion to meet their needs.  One component of the Great Awakening was the idea of religious interest and reform.  Religion became a populist thing.  There was a spring of different branches and sects.  These movements have influenced current evangelical trends.

It revealed that people were very concerned with the social trends, at least. This was a time when the Enlightenment and its secular thought were taking hold in America.  This led to decreased emphasis on religion.  This decrease led many people to feel that changes had to be made to get American society back on the right track.  That's where the Great Awakening came in.
