Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby Quiz
It seems F. Scott Fitzgerald was none too fond of jocks. Tom Buchanan is about as grating a character as there is in all of literature. Obtuse, dismissive, and self-absorbed... there is nothing really to like about the man. The more he opens his mouth, the more moral failings he reveals. Maybe the only credible thing Tom ever says is to Nick, when he advises, "Don't believe everything you hear." It would be nice to dismiss him but his actions ultimately wind up affecting everyone in the novel.
