Chapter 7 covers the events during Tom finally recognizes the true nature of the friendship between Daisy and Jay Gatsby. As Tom watches their reactions to comments by the other, he becomes suspicious and the dislike he feels for Gatsby and his ways increases. When Daisy suggests they go into the city to try to escape the tremendous heat, then directs Tom to drive Nick and Jordan while she rides with Gatsby, Tom's apprehensions are confirmed. He spends the drive becoming more and more angry and upset about the discovery and about the way in which it had been taking place in his presence for some time.
