Ninny wraps up the tales of some Whistle Stop residents. Willie Peavey, the son of Onzell and Big George, was tragically killed by another black man in a bar shortly before he was set to return home from World War II. Willie's brother, Artis, avenged his death by killing the man responsible. Artis ended up in jail after being caught freeing a dog from the dogcatcher, but Idgie and Grady managed to secure his release. Years later, Artis passed away in the lobby of a flophouse in Birmingham. Onzell, who never left Ruth's side as she suffered from terminal cancer, eventually gave Ruth enough morphine to end her pain.

Approximately twenty-five years after Frank was declared missing, his truck was found near Whistle Stop, leading to Idgie and Big George being accused of his murder. During the trial, Reverend Scroggins, whom Idgie had pestered for years, testified that she and George were at a tent revival the night Frank disappeared. The reverend lied to protect Idgie because she had previously helped get his son out of jail. The judge, aware that the testimony was false, dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence. Ninny confides to Evelyn that Sipsey killed Frank when he attempted to abduct Ruth's baby from the café. Big George then cooked Frank's body and served it to the two detectives who came searching for him.

Ninny's friendship and encouragement help Evelyn gain newfound confidence. She embarks on a successful career with Mary Kay Cosmetics, a job Ninny suggested, and attends a "fat farm" in California where she loses weight, makes friends, and builds more self-esteem. While Evelyn is away, Ninny passes away. Upon returning, Evelyn visits Whistle Stop and meets Mrs. Hartman, Ninny's former neighbor, who shows her photos of many people she had heard about. Two years later, Evelyn visits Ninny's grave to share how much happier she has become. At the cemetery, she discovers a note from the "bee charmer" on Ruth's grave. A month later, a family traveling to Florida stops at a roadside inn run by Idgie and her brother Julian, where Idgie gifts the couple's eight-year-old daughter a free jar of honey.
