Nightingale influenced British society at large by speaking against the living conditions in the military camps and hospitals and by speaking for improved conditions. Her campaign resulted in the British publication of Royal Commission on the Health of the Army. She successfully advocated that statistics be the basis of decision about military living and hospital conditions. Her statistical graphs were called "coxcombs."
