Student Question

What's a suitable topic for my argumentative essay if I have a vague idea about what I want to write about?

Quick answer:

To choose a suitable topic for your argumentative essay, consider your passions and interests, such as music, sports, or politics. Reflect on what matters to you, like relationships or religious beliefs, and choose a thought-provoking topic. Ensure your topic allows you to take a clear position that you can support with examples, statistics, or expert opinions. Avoid topics that are purely descriptive or research-based, as they lack the argumentative depth needed for an engaging essay.

When choosing a topic it is best to think about your passions! Is it music, art, sports, relationships, or politics? How do you spend your leisure time? What relationships are important to you? Are you religious? What is the purpose of your life?  The topic should be thought provoking if you want to write about something interesting. Avoid descriptive, research based topics that are more like reports rather than essays where you are sharing your passions and feelings about a topic. Include the pro and cons and cite examples.  Include what made you choose the topic and end with how important your topic is to you and society.
