Count Dracula
Count Dracula is a centuries-old vampire who sustains his life by feeding on the blood of the living. By day, he is a lifeless corpse, but he becomes animated at night. His quest for sustenance leads him to England, instigating a series of terrifying events as he pursues his victims. These pursuits eventually lead Dracula back to Romania, where he meets his end when a stake is driven through his heart, rendering him truly dead.
Jonathan Harker
Jonathan Harker, an English solicitor engaged to Mina Murray, travels to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula with his purchase of a London property. Upon arriving at Castle Dracula, Jonathan soon becomes aware of the count's peculiarities, such as his inhuman strength, wall-crawling ability, and absence of a reflection. Harker finds himself imprisoned and occasionally victimized by Dracula's sinister influence. During his imprisonment, he discovers Dracula in his coffin, lifeless by day.
After an encounter with three mysterious women who attempt to bite him, Jonathan realizes the supernatural nature of his captors. Eventually, he escapes the castle by climbing down its walls and ends up in a foreign hospital, where he is presumed mad. Upon returning to London, he is instrumental in unveiling Dracula's presence and becomes determined to destroy the vampire, especially after Mina is bitten. In the final confrontation, Jonathan decapitates Dracula with a knife.
Mina Murray
Mina Murray, later Mina Harker, is Jonathan's diligent fiancée. She plays a crucial role in the pursuit of Dracula. Initially concerned about Jonathan's prolonged absence, she assists in nursing him back to health after his ordeal. Mina becomes involved in unraveling the mystery surrounding Lucy Westenra's strange illness and realizes Dracula's identity through Jonathan's journal.
After being bitten by Dracula, Mina is in danger of becoming a vampire herself. Her psychic connection to Dracula becomes a pivotal tool for the vampire hunters to track him. Despite her ordeal, Mina's resilience and organizational skills help the group tremendously. In the end, with Dracula's destruction, the curse is lifted, and she is freed from the threat of vampirism.
Lucy Westenra
Lucy Westenra is a beautiful Englishwoman and Mina's friend who becomes Dracula's victim. Initially overwhelmed by choosing between three suitors, she becomes engaged to Arthur Holmwood. However, her life takes a devastating turn when Dracula begins preying on her, often appearing in werewolf form. Despite the best efforts of Dr. Seward and Professor Van Helsing, who perform multiple blood transfusions, Lucy succumbs to Dracula's attacks and dies, only to rise again as a vampire.
As a vampire, Lucy terrorizes children around London, until she is ultimately staked by her fiancé Arthur, allowing her soul to find peace.
Dr. Van Helsing
Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, an Amsterdam specialist, is a prominent vampire hunter and mentor to Dr. Seward. He is called upon to assist with Lucy's mysterious illness, and through his expertise in both science and the supernatural, he identifies the threat posed by Dracula. Van Helsing organizes efforts to protect Lucy using blood transfusions, garlic, and crucifixes, but ultimately Lucy becomes a vampire.
Despite this, Van Helsing leads the hunt to destroy Dracula, employing his extensive knowledge of the vampire's strengths and weaknesses. His leadership and dedication are instrumental in saving Mina's soul and defeating Dracula, even as he confronts the supernatural elements with scientific rigor.
Dr. John Seward
Dr. Seward is the director of an insane asylum and a former suitor of Lucy Westenra. After being rejected by Lucy, he immerses himself in his work, notably observing the strange behavior of his patient, R. M. Renfield, who is connected to Dracula. Seward calls upon his mentor, Dr. Van Helsing, for assistance with Lucy's illness. Initially skeptical, Seward comes to believe in the supernatural when he witnesses Lucy's transformation.
He joins the team of vampire hunters, relying on modern technology like phonographs to record observations. Seward plays a crucial role in the pursuit and eventual destruction of Dracula and his influence in London.
Arthur Holmwood
Arthur Holmwood, later Lord Godalming, is Lucy Westenra's fiancé who faces the difficult task of putting an end to her vampiric existence. Amidst his grief over Lucy's transformation and death, Arthur uses his noble title and resources to aid the group in their quest against Dracula. He takes part in the efforts to destroy Dracula's coffins in London and helps to corner the vampire during his final escape. His contributions are pivotal in the ultimate confrontation with Dracula.
Quincey P. Morris
Quincey Morris, a Texan and the sole American among the characters, is one of Lucy's suitors. Though she does not choose him, he remains devoted to her, even participating in blood transfusions to save her. Quincey plays a courageous role in the battle against Dracula, ultimately delivering a fatal stab to the vampire before succumbing to his own fatal wounds inflicted by Dracula's gypsy protectors. In his honor, Mina and Jonathan name their son after him.
R. M. Renfield
R. M. Renfield is a patient in Dr. Seward's asylum who exhibits peculiar behavior reminiscent of Dracula's own predatory habits, such as consuming insects. Renfield's loyalty to Dracula becomes evident when the count arrives in England, and his erratic behavior provides clues to Dracula's presence. Despite this allegiance, Renfield attempts to protect Mina from Dracula, resulting in a brutal attack that leaves Renfield mortally wounded. His insights help the vampire hunters in their quest against Dracula.
The Three Female Vampires
The three unnamed vampire women appear during Jonathan Harker's stay at Castle Dracula, attempting to seduce and bite him. Dracula intervenes, offering them a child to feed on instead. Later, they attempt to allure Mina, but are thwarted by Professor Van Helsing, who ultimately destroys them at Dracula's castle.
