Throughout The Coldest Winter Ever, especially during the earlier chapters, it's patently obvious that Winter's judgment isn't the best. Willful, selfish, and materialistic, Winter is determined to get what she wants whenever she wants it, never mind with the consequences. This leads her into making a series of bad choices that send her life on a downward spiral.

One such choice involves hanging out with Bullet, who becomes Winter's boyfriend not long after she meets him at a party in Brooklyn. It soon becomes apparent that Bullet isn't exactly what you might call a model boyfriend. Although he initially treats Winter quite well, it isn't very long before he shows his true colors.

As well as being a drug dealer, Bullet is also a possessive control-freak, who, on one notorious occasion, leaves Winter alone without any food in an apartment full of vicious dogs. For two whole days, Winter is forced to hide in the bathroom.

Yet Winter chooses to remain with Bullet, a common reaction among some victims of domestic abuse. And further trouble is on the horizon. One day, Winter is driving with Bullet with a stash of drugs concealed in the drunk. They encounter Simone and her crew, and in the ensuing fight, Simone viciously slashes Winter's face with a broken bottle. After being released from hospital, Winter is sent to jail for drug possession. In the meantime, an indifferent Bullet shows his true self once again by just walking away as if nothing has happened.
