Provides an overview of Guevara's life and career. Lowy attempts "to show that Guevara's ideas constitute a coherent whole, and are built on the basic premises of Marxism-Leninism, their philosophical, humanistic, ethical, economic, sociological, political, and military themes, all closely linked together." The critic also discusses Guevara's contributions to Marxism and those points on which he differs from other contemporary communist leaders.
