Student Question

What foods did Timothy and Philip eat on the cay?

Quick answer:

Timothy and Philip initially had chocolate and biscuits from a survival tin on their raft. On the island, they consumed coconuts, which provided both meat and milk. Timothy, skilled in survival techniques, fashioned fishing poles to catch fish and lobster, referred to as "feesh" and "langosta." He also taught Philip how to navigate and "see" the island to ensure their survival.

Inside a compartment on their rescue raft their was a tin of survival supplies. Inside the tin there was chocolate and some biscuits (probably something like thick saltine crackers). There was also a book of matches inside the tin as well. When they got to the island, Timothy set to looking for sources of food straight away. He had to make sure that he and Phillip, now newly blind, had food to survive their stay, however long, on this island. He found that the island was rich with coconuts so they ate coconut meat and milk. Timothy was also wise in the way of survival so he knew how to fashion fishing poles. They ate "feesh" or fish and "langosta" or lobster while on the island. Timothy made certain from the first day on the island that he taught Phillip step by step how to "see" the island in order to survive himself.
