What remarkable feat did Buck accomplish that Thornton bragged about?

What Buck did was to pull, all by himself (he weighed 150 pounds at this point) a sled that was loaded with 1000 pounds of flour.  Not only did he pull it, but he had to break it free first.  Its runners were frozen to the snow and Buck had to break them loose and then pull it 100 yards.

You can find the story of this towards the middle of Chapter 6.  John Thornton has Buck try this because of a bet.  He is not sure Buck can do it, but Buck managed it right at the end of the chapter.  In Chapter 7 we find out he won Thornton $1600.
