he does not want Todd Amos to wake up. Bud has escaped out of the shed and gotten himself back into the house to retrieve his suitcase; however, Bud can not bring himself to leave the Amos household without first getting some revenge against Todd Amos. Bud has learned that Mrs. Amos hates bed wetters, so Bud conspires to make Todd wet the bed. Bud initially attempts to dip Todd's fingers in a warm glass of water because Bud has heard that will cause a sleeping person to begin urinating.
One of the older boys at the Home told me if you dipped someone's hand in a warm glass of water whilst they're asleep they don't have any choice but to pee the bed.
Bud is flustered by his attempts because no amount of finger dipping gets Todd to wet the bed. Out of frustration, Bud dumps the jar of water on Todd's pajama pants, and that is what triggers Todd's bladder to finally let go. Bud is overjoyed that he got Todd to wet the bed, and Bud exits the room and the house while silently laughing to us and telling us that his favorite saying is about the person who laughs best is the person that is laughing last. Bud has gotten the last laugh against Todd Amos.
