Why doesn't the Principal publish Helmholtz's poem in Brave New World?

The Principal won't publish Helmholtz's poem because it contains ideas that are counter to those taught by society; they're ideas that are forbidden. However, there is no mention of publishing the poems in the chapter. Helmholtz only tells the story about reading the poem to his students.

Helmholtz gets into trouble with the Principal because he reads rhymes to students that have ideas which aren't allowed in the society in Brave New World. The main one referenced in the text is the idea of being alone. At the time he read them, he was teaching Emotional Engineering for Third Year Students and giving a lesson on "On the Use of Rhymes in Moral Propaganda and Advertisement."

He says he decided to use an example he'd written himself. He tells John and Bernard that he wanted the students to feel what he did as he wrote; he says it was doing a bit of propaganda himself. He says that:

"What an outcry there was! The Principal had me up and threatened to hand me the immediate sack. l'm a marked man."

He seems to find the whole thing amusing.

In chapter 12, however, there is a discussion of a work called "The New Theory of Biology." Mustapha Mond is reading it. He says:

"The author's mathematical treatment of the conception of purpose is novel and highly ingenious, but heretical and, so far as the present social order is concerned, dangerous and potentially subversive. Not to be published." He underlined the words.

That's the only thing about something actually being published in the chapter.

In this chapter, Helmholtz Watson has been experimenting with poetry that really actually shows true emotions.  That's not really what he is supposed to be doing, but he has been feeling unhappy with his work and he wants to write "real" stuff.

So what he does is he writes this poetry about wanting to be alone and how nice it would be to be alone.  The students complain at once and he gets in trouble.  The reason for this is that you are not supposed to want to be alone.  Their whole society is based on always being with other people and having fun.  They do not want you off by yourself thinking because that could cause trouble for the society.

So the principal won't publish it because it has "bad" ideas in it -- ones that go against society's needs and values.
