In Brave New World, there are two significant death scenes: Linda's and Johns. In each case, both escape the world in which they unhappily dwell, but their reasons for despair are certainly different. Upon returning to the New World, Linda has hoped to regain a sense of self and her place in London, but is rejected by the Director, her former lover. Since John is the protagonist of the novel, his death is the more significant one: John commits suicide because with no one else like him and with no privacy and respect for his desire to live apart from the New World, he has lost his sense of self.

A thesis paragraph on John, for instance, can argue that the scene of John's death illustrates the prevailing theme in Brave New World of the Loss of Self.

The structure of this thesis paragraph is as follows:

• 9-10 sentences
• In the first sentence, a thesis statement is made immediately. This argument will be continued in every sentence thereafter. 
• Further sentences continue the argument by explicating it.
• The last sentences are the strongest.
• The final one closes the argument by restating it in different words.

After his realization that the New World is but a parody of what he has imagined it to be and John finds Lenina along with the other residents superficial and devoid of any genuine emotion, he senses a terrible loss of his own identity. [This can be the thesis that you will restate and strengthen in subsequent sentences.] Having requested to be anywhere he can be alone, he is still unable to get in touch with himself because he is accosted by reporters; frustrated, John tries to escape from them.
