"I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes Unto The Hills"

Download PDF PDF Page Citation Cite Share Link Share

Context: A pilgrim, looking up to the mountains and asking the source of his help, expresses the sentiment that God, the Creator of the world, helps him. As the guardian of Israel, the Lord is ever vigilant to keep the traveler from slipping and falling. God protects him, giving him a safe journey so that he need not fear the sun (sunstroke) or the moon (certain illnesses were believed to be connected with the phases of the moon). The Lord keeps him from all evil forever-more. The psalm begins:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
